The Commission of Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS has expressed concern over the circumstances that led to the postponement of the Presidential elections in Senegal scheduled for 25th February 2024.
A statement by the the ECOWAS Commission is appealing to authorities concerned to expedite action on various processes to set a new date for the elections.
The commission urges the entire political class to prioritize dialogue and collaborate for transparency, inclusiveness and hold credible elections.
ECOWAS salutes President Macky Sall for upholding his earlier decision not to run for another term, thereby protecting Senegal’s long standing democratic tradition.
The Commission also reaffirms it will remain seized of the situation.
