Dr. Adesina Assumes Office As African Development Bank President

For the first time in over 50 years a Nigerian, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina has assumed Office as the President of the African Development Bank, AFDB. The investiture of Dr. Adesina who was the immediate past Minister of Agriculture in Nigeria was attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and the President of Cote D’Voire Alhassan Outtara.
Dr. Adesina after taking the Oath of Office pledged to work towards addressing the Socio-economic challenges in Africa.Vice President Osinbajo who represented President Buhari at the occasion charged the Bank to come up with policy that will address poverty in Africa, create jobs and ensure transparency and accountability in governance.
He pledged Nigerian Government’s support for the development of the Bank.
The African Development Bank – AFDB is a Multilateral Development Finance Institution established to contribute to the economic development and social progress of African Countries.

adesinaThe AFDB was founded in 1964 and comprises three entitles: The African Development Bank, The African Development Fund and The Nigeria Trust Fund.
The Bank’s mission is to fight poverty and improve living conditions on the Continent through the promotion and investment of Public and Private Capital in projects and Socio-economic programmes.

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo says the time has come for Africans to re-think some of the time-worn economic ideas and myths that have held its people and policy makers bound to only a few options.
Speaking in Abidjan at the investiture of the new African Development Bank’s President, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, Vice President Osinbajo called on Africans to develop uncommon creativity, innovation and change in charting the pathway for future growth and development of Countries in the Continent.
