IGP, Solomon Arase Visits INEC Headquarters

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has assured the Independent National Electoral Commission of the readiness of the Nigerian Police to work with the Commission in ensuring successful conduct of the forth coming elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States. This was when he met with the INEC Acting Chairman, Amina Bala Zakari at the INEC Headquarters in Abuja.

The visit he explains is aimed at cementing the existing relationship between the Police and INEC. The Inspector General of Police informed the INEC Acting Chairman of the directive given to Police Commissioners nationwide to ensure adequate security at INEC Offices and at election tribunal sittings.

The Acting Chairperson in turn briefed the Police boss on the Commissioner’s readiness to work with the Police in ensuring success of the elections.

In another development, the Inspector-General of Police has given State Commissioners of Police one week ultimatum to report on their compliance to earlier directives on withdrawal of Policemen attached to unauthorized persons across the Country and reduction of Police Personnel to Political Office holders.
