Nigerian High Commission on Textile Development
By Gabriel Odu
The textile industry in Nigeria has been out-of-production of over ten years and efforts at revamping the industry have been unsuccessful. Fired by the desire to create a value chain approach, the Nigerian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ambassador Dauda Danladi has visited some textile industries ahead of the Pakistani Trade Mission to Nigeria.
Pakistan is the third largest textile producer in the world with over 18,000 textile industries. A visit to some facilities shows a value chain process from the raw materials, spinning to yarn, weaving and design. Amazed by the high level competence and capacity of Pakistan textile industries, Ambassador Danladi said Nigeria must get serious over three thousand jobs are created by just one industry with annual turn over of about $300? US Dollars.
