While urging the Senate to fast track the confirmation process, Mrs Ovrawah called on the Federal Government to reconstitute the governing board of the Commission, in conformity with the Paris Principles governing such appointments.

The Acting Head of the Commission noted that the prolonged absence of a governing board could affect the ranking of the Commission at the Global Alliance for National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI)

Mr. Ojukwu joined the NHRC in 2001 and has at different times served as the special Assistant, to a one time Executive Secretary of the Commission and also to, a Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
