The 2017 Batch ‘B’ Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to Gombe State have lauded the initiative of the Federal Government on Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.

The corps members spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at Amada temporary orientation camp in Akko, Gombe State on Monday.

Miss Obarakpor Owhobitayeh, who was attached to the leather-making class, said that she had learnt how to make different types of shoes and bags during the orientation course.

According to her, before joining the NYSC, “I did not know how to do such products, but now I can be on my own with fund and train many people on how to make shoes and bags.

“With the training of SAED, most of us can be self reliant. With this, we have to thank the NYSC management and the Federal Government for giving us the opportunity to learn how to make different things.’’

Mr Opkala Benedict, another corps member in the Food Processing class, said that he learnt how to process different types of foods, snacks and juice, among others.

According to him, with the experience, I can start the business of food processing during and after the service year to make more money and to train others.

Mr Agu Nnadozie, who joined the Construction and Technology class, said that he learnt how to construct different types of doors, windows, electric fence and how to convert heat to electrical energy.

He said that the orientation course had exposed him to so many things that would help him succeed in life.

“I am so happy with this training programme and I assure you that I can be on my own now if supported with fund,’’ he said.

Nnadozie thanked the Federal Government and the camp officials for putting the corps members through skill acquisition and entrepreneurship. (NAN)
