Nigerian Army Commissions Gunboats to Combat Crisis in Niger Delta

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonishakin says the armed forces is prepared to tackle resurgence of militancy in the Niger delta region. He made this known while commissioning twelve refurbished gun boats by the two brigade Nigerian army in Okrika, Rivers state.

This is in response to the recent attacks on oil facility starting with Chevron, then Agip by a group known as Niger Delta Avengers. The group attacked the Chevron Escravos tank farm earlier today in Delta. Which has affected adversely revenue generation capacity of the government as well as  Electric power generating capacity of the several gas power plants in Nigeria, according to the Minister of Power, Work and . And also similar statement by Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu. Some analysts believe the new crises in the Nigerian Niger Delta is responsible for the new surge in the Global Crude oil price to a Year high of $50 due largely to disruption in supply.
