Nigerians Commemorates World Fistula Day

Fistula is an abnormal or surgically made passage between a hollow or tubular organ and the body surface, or between two hollow or tubular organ. In medicine, a fistula is an abnormal connection between two hollow spaces (technically, two epithelial surfaces), such as blood vessels, intestines, or other hollow organs. Fistulas are usually caused by injury or surgery, but they can also result from an infection or inflammation. Fistulas are generally a disease condition, but they may be surgically created for therapeutic reasons.

As Nigeria commemorates World Fistula Day, experts advocate more treatment centers and awareness in order to achieve elimination. Aisha Uba Ali, NTA correspondent reports that the day promotes action towards treating and preventing obstetric fistula, a condition that affects many girls and women in developing countries.

Over 20,000 Nigerian woman suffer from this tendencies. The Fistula care plus Nigeria are using this medium to create awareness about the disease and all possible measure and treatment methods.
