Communal Living Will Close Security Gaps – NOA
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) says a return to the communal living for which the Nigerian society is known will enable everyone know his neighbour better and identify suspicious characters in the community thereby aiding security agencies to close the security gaps in the country.
Director General of NOA, Mr. Mike Omeri took this position at a one-day sensitization programme tagged “Do the Right Thing: Close the Security Gaps in Our Country”, organized by the Agency in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Representing the NOA Director General, the Director in his office, Mrs. Mette Edekobi stressed that everyone in the society is a leader and thus has a responsibility to do what is right or their society, including being security conscious. Omeri charged parents to pay closer attention to the activities of their children so as to provide the right direction and steer them away from crimes while urging community leaders and landlords to verify the character of strange persons before habouring them in their domains and houses respectively.
In a Keynote address, the FCT Director of the Agency Mr. Moses Abba said our founding fathers had a dream of an independent, united and peaceful nation and therefore called on Nigerians to ensure peaceful coexistence both at the community and the national level.
Goodwill messages by participants stressed the need for everyone to be vigilant about activities in their surroundings and provide prompt and relevant information to security agencies. They also called on well-meaning individuals to assist government in creating jobs to discourage the youths from crime and urged security agencies to always maintain equality before the law in dealing with offences irrespective of the class or status of those involved.
Participants were drawn from traditional and religious leaders, the military, paramilitary, voluntary organizations, public servants, community based organizations, transporters, traders, artisans and farmers.
