Imo state has pulled out of the national electricity market by creating it’s electricity regulatory commission

In an order released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission NERC, the commission states that Imo state Government has complied with the provisions of the 2023 Electricity Act and and the 1999 constitution as amended to establish and regulate intrastate electricity market.

Subsequent upon this, NERC says it has transfer regulatory oversight in the state to the newly created Imo State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

NERC directs Enugu Electricity Distribution Company EEDC to within sixty days incorporate a subsidiary which will be licensed by the Imo state Electricity Regulatory Commission to assume responsibilities for intrastate supply and distribution of electricity in the state.

All transfers envisaged by this order are expected to be completed by 31 December 2024.
