Speaker Abbas Advocates Review of Workers’ Salary

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas says an enhanced living wage for workers is one way of strengthening the fight against corruption in the country.

A statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi indicates that the Speaker made the advocacy at a reception organized in his honour by the Nigerian High Commission in London.

Describing the rule of law and the fight against corruption as necessary for meaningful progress in the country, Speaker Abbas said a review of Workers’ Salary would promote honesty and transparency in public service, as well as accord citizens a sense of justice and fairness.

He said for the nation to successfully tackle corruption, an enabling environment is needed for transparent dealings, where an average worker should be able to earn enough to fend for family needs.

The Speaker also called for economic reforms that would improve education, health and all other critical sectors.

Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola, at the reception wished Speaker Abbas a successful tenure in office.
