Supreme Court dismisses PDP suit challenging the nomination of Kashim Shetimma as Vice President-elect

The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by the People’s Democratic Party challenging the nomination of the Vice President-elect, Kashim Shetimma.

The five-man panel of the apex court headed by the Justice John Okoro gave the order in Abuja.

In a unanimous judgment read by Justice Adamu Jauro, the Apex Court described the appeal by the PDP as frivolous and a gross abuse of court process.

The court was of the view that with the withdrawal of Kashim Shetimma as the senatorial candidate of APC in Borno State on 6th July, 2022, Shetimma’s nomination as Vice Presidential candidate of the APC could not be termed as double nomination as enshrined in section 35 of the electoral act, 2022.

The Apex Court maintained that the appellant lacked locus standi to institute the case and as such a meddlesome interloper in the affairs of the APC on its nomination.

The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the court of appeal and dismissed the appeal of the PDP with cost.
