INEC Assures of Peaceful Elections in Niger
Prof. Samuel Egwu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Niger State has assured of peaceful conduct of the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.
Egwu who gave the assurance during his oversight visit to polling units in Minna said that all logistics and personnel arrangements had been made across the 4,950 polling units in the state.
He said that reports from the 25 Local Government Areas indicated that elections commenced in the state without threat to lives and properties.
He said that the election was going on peacefully as voters were seen at polling units exercising their rights.
“Security arrangement is perfect in the polling units. We made sure that the people are voting without hindrance. Our staff and materials are well-secured not just in Minna but in the entire state.
“We have been monitoring the process and everything is going on smoothly so I urge residents to come out, vote and wait for the results, ” he said.
Meanwhile, voters in the Governorship and State Assembly elections in Niger have commended INEC for the early commencement of the exercise in the state.
The voters told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that accreditation and voting commenced in most polling units between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
In one of the polling units in Sauka Kahuta in Minna metropolis, Lukman Abubakar, a voter, lauded the commission for the provision of sufficient electoral materials.
He also commended residents for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
Another voter, Hajiya Amina Isa of Kofar Madaki commended the commission and security agencies for providing a level playing ground for all political parties to participate in the elections. ( NAN)
