Northern Governors’ Wives Forum to Tackle Drug Abuse, Addiction
( Sabatu Andrew ) The Northern Governors Wives Forum has commissioned an ultra modern occupational therapy and youth development centre for the rehabilitation of drug addicts in Sokoto.
The wives were hosted for their quarterly meeting in the seat of the caliphate by wife of Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Mariya Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. A communique issued at the end of yesterday’s meeting expressed satisfaction with the pace of advocacy against drug abuse and called for assistance from the governors to enable them execute the forums anti drug crusade fully.
The formal meeting was followed by a tour of historical sites of Sokoto such as ‘Hubbare’ the tomb of Usman Dan Fodio and the Waziri Umar Museum.
Speaking Wednesday at the commissioning of the rehab center, chairperson of the forum and wife of Bauchi state Governor, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar noted that the centre located at the Specialist Hospital Sokoto was the second to be commissioned by the forum amongst other steps taken by at least 6state so far of which Kebbi State is one and is currently training 200 teachers by the UNODC.
In a remark at the occasion, Sokoto state Governor Aminu Tambuwal said the centre was aimed at rehabilitating addict drug and integrating them to become productive in the society.
According to him, the centre equipped with complete rehabilitation package would be free to all drug addicts.
The Sokoto Governors wife Hajiya Mariya Tambuwal stressed the need for stakeholders to boost their efforts in the fight against drug abuse. A tour round the center, a homage visit to the palace of His Eminence Sultan Saad Abubakar marked the end of the 2 day meeting.
