Yobe Govt. Distributes Foodstuff, Clothing to IDPs
The Yobe Government on Tuesday distributed 750 bags of rice; 100 bags of sorghum; cooking oil and used clothes “to bridge the food gaps” in seven self-set Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Musa Jidawa, distributed the relief materials to six self-set camps in Damaturu and one in Fune village.
Jidawa said the package was intended to complement and meet the food needs of the IDPs in the camps.
He urged IDPs who decided to settle in other places outside their traditional communities to engage in productive ventures for economic recovery.
He said although government would continue to assist the IDPs with basic needs, they should engage in productive ventures to meet some other needs.
According to the permanent secretary, government is gradually moving out of humanitarian assistance to a recovery stage where structures and institutions will be reconstructed to enhance resettlement and rehabilitation of displaced persons.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 200 bags of rice were delivered to Kukareta IDPs camp, while Ngabarawa, Furi, Abbari, Kasaisa IDP camps received 100 bags of rice each.
Others include; Fune village 100 bags of rice and 100 bags of Sorghum, cooking oil and clothes, while the IDPs camp at Mohammadu Gombe farm was given 50 bags of rice. (NAN)
