FMMSD Collaborates with MDAs on Mining Roadmap

The Ministry of Mines and Steel Development in furtherance of its plan to  sensitise all stakeholders in the mining sector on key elements of the mining Roadmap, on Wednesday, held a forum on Mining Roadmap Synergy/Linkages Consultations with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAS), in conjunction with the Mining Implementation and Strategy Team (MIST).

The aim of the forum is to introduce the components of the Roadmap to the different MDAS and collaborate with them on the areas of synergy and linkages to ensure full implementation of the roadmap for national economic growth.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Mines and Steel Development speaking through his Representative, the Director of Human Resource Management, Alhaji Sanusi Ashiru, commended the MIST on sensitising stakeholders in the industry on the Roadmap and urged them to do more to actualise the implementation of the document to achieve its desired objectives.

He said the outcome of the synergy and linkages between the Ministry and MDAS would further enhance activities in the minerals value chain (MVC).

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of MIST, Professor Gbenga Okunlola, stated that MIST was inaugurated in December, 2016 to assist the Ministry in ensuring that the implementation elements embedded in the Roadmap are delivered against the respective timelines.

He said that MIST has organised four series of the sensitisation forum at different locations across the country. The first was held in Abuja for the Ministry’s key staff, the second in Lagos for industrial key players which witnessed the attendance of the Minister alongside the Economic Summit Group, a forum with community and mining operators was held in Jos, while the fourth is on invitation to roadmap synergy/linkages consultations with MDAS in Abuja.

The invited MDAs include Ministries of Science and Technology, Environment, Foreign Affairs, Power, Works and Housing, Water Resources, Budget and National Planning among others.
