court-vc-association-universityA 34-year-old man, Chukwuma Ezeugo, was on Friday charged before an Asaba Magistrates’Court in Delta, for alleged fraud of N620, 000.

Ezeugo, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of fraud.

The Prosecutor, Mr Eric Bala told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept. 5, 2017 at Nnebisi Road, Asaba.

Bala said the defendant defrauded Mr Richard Nwabuike of N150, 000 and Mr Obasi Chinedu of N470, 000 under the pretence of securing jobs for their relations, a representation he knew was false.

The prosecutor said all efforts made by the complainants to retrieve their money from the defendant proved abortive.

Bala said the offence contravened Sections 419 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Delta, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Akanume Okonkwo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Okonkwo said the sureties should be blood relations of the accused and they should own landed property.

She said the sureties should be civil servants who should provide evidence of employment letters, and they should also reside in Asaba.

Okonkwo adjourned the case until Feb. 2 for mention (NAN)
