Standards Organisation of Nigeria Commences Standards Advocacy Visit to Schools
The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has commenced the process of inaugurating Standards Clubs in primary and secondary schools in Niger State.
Coordinator of SON, Niger State Office, Mr. Sunday Badewole stated this during an advocacy visit to students and officials of Government Day Secondary School, Bosso Road, and Government Girls Day Science College both in Minna.
According to him, the Director General, SON Mr. Osita Aboloma is desirous of carrying the youths along in the crusade to improve lives through standards and quality assurance by encouraging the setting up of Standards Clubs in primary and secondary schools nation wide.
He disclosed that necessary steps have been taken to secure the support and approvals of the Niger State Government through the State Ministry of Education.
The State Ministries of Youth and Sports; Commerce and Industry as well as Women Affairs have also pledged support towards the inauguration of the program, he said.
Mr. Badewole disclosed that the scheme which was formally launched in Ekiti State in 2015 has also become operational in primary and secondary schools in many other states of the federation.
He emphasised the key role of the Standards Club members in understanding issues of standardisation and quality assurance in order to influence others in schools and at their various homes.
The SON Niger State Coordinator assured the school authorities of the preparedness of the organisation to provide the required knowledge to the students through constant interactions on issues of standardisation and quality assurance.
Mr. Badewole then called on the people of Niger State to join the quality vanguard by supporting SON activities aimed at improving life through standards and quality assurance.
He enjoined stakeholders in the state to always endeavor to report standards infractions or suspected substandard products to SON Office in Minna for prompt action.
The Management of the schools expressed excitement at the initiative and promised maximum cooperation with SON to inaugurate the Standards Clubs and get them operational.
