Nguru Market Fire: NEMA Assists 149 Traders

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has assisted 149 victims of fire disaster in Nguru Central Market, in Yobe.

This is contained in a statement by Mr Sani Datti, the NEMA Head of Media and Public Relations made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said the items included 1,200 bags of cement,732 bundles of roofing sheets,300 bags of roofing nails,1,485 ceiling boards and 3,000 pieces of wooden planks.

He said the assistance was to enable the victims rebuild their burnt shops while the items would be distributed directly to affected victims by the team of the agency together with market committee members.

Datti said that the agency sympathized with the traders on behalf of the Federal Government adding that the items were parts of palliative measures.

He said that the NEMA Director General, Engr Mustapha Maihaja also inspected the damages in the burnt market where he emphasized the need for more caution against fire disaster especially during this harmattan season.

According to the statement, the market fire incident occurred on Saturday, Nov.11 and NEMA staff were deployed same day to assess damages for the relief intervention. (NAN)
