Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises across the Nation are set to benefit from a robust collaboration between the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) in the area of accurate measurement.

This indication was given in Enugu during a sensitization visit of officials of the National Metrology Institute (NMI) led by the Director, Engr. Obi Manafa to the South East Zonal office of SMEDAN.

Enumerating the objectives of the visit, Engr. Manafa stressed the need for accuracy and traceability of all measurements being embarked on by Small and Medium Enterprises for global competitiveness of their products.

According to him, SMEs should strive to imbibe quality and accuracy in all their activities by taking optimum advantage of the NMI’s existing capacity in calibration.

Responding, the South East Coordinator of SMEDAN, Rev. Levi Anyikwa urged the SON leadership to sustain the tempo of sensitization of the NMI’s existing capacity and its future plans.

He suggested the incorporation of metrology in SMEDAN’s training and sensitization modules regularly organized for SMEs across the country with SON serving as facilitators.

According to him, a formal memorandum of understanding between the two organizations should be considered to detail areas of possible collaboration and mutual benefit to the two organizations, SMEs and Nigerians at large.

Documents enumerating the profile and capabilities of the NMI were presented to the SMEDAN Coordinator for onward distribution to SMEs while the latter’s annual report was presented to SON in return.
