The Association of Movie Producers in Benue says  the upcoming Benue Nollywood Week slated for between Nov.17 and Nov.18  will be used to showcase  the moral and cultural values of the Benue people.

The association’s chairman in the state, Mrs Rose Okwoli, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Makurdi.

Okwoli added that the week-long activities would also be used to re-orientate the youths on the negative aspects associated with the industry.

She said the association would use the programme to rebrand the industry and attract those with talents and potential to develop the state using their innate creativity.

Okwoli said the event would lay the foundation for the development of the movie industry in the state.

The chairman also said that the association would launch a movie on youth empowerment scheme for aspiring movie actors during the week.

According to her, the empowerment scheme will provide funding for the training of young movie actors to unlock their hidden treasures.

She said the scheme would  “continually improve and develop Benue talents in the movie industry in various professional areas“.

She said the week-long activities would include a physical- fitness walk, a lecture and others.

Okwoli, however, regretted that indigenous films were not patronized by the people, saying the trend was discouraging.

“Our people are not embracing our local works and this is discouraging; it is killing our members’ creativity,” she said. (NAN)
