Nasarawa State Moves To Revitalize State Mineral Deposit and Environment

In re-positioning the mining sector and environmental enhancement to the benefit of all, His Excellency Silas Ali Agara, Deputy Governor, Nasarawa State has Inaugurated the Nasarawa State Mineral Resources & Environmental Management Committee (MIREMCO).

The Committee is to advise and offer necessary assistance required by holders of Mineral titles in State/LGs and also to supervise mineral exploitation and the implementation of social and environmental protection measures.

Monitored from Ta’al Circle, while inaugurating the 7 man committee to reconstitute Nasarawa State Mineral Resources & Environmental Management Committee (MIREMCO) The Nasarawa State Deputy Governor His Excellency, Silas Ali Agara, stressed that the committee was constituted as enshrined in the Nigerian Minerals & Mining Act, 2007 to resuscitate the state Mineral resources and the environmental management.

He added that the committee should do all it could to come out with a good report to better the solid Mineral sector in Nasarawa state.

Delivering his opening remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Solid Minerals, Barr. Akaaka Gabriel stressed that the committee has judicial precept under section 90 of the mining act, 2007 to use its untiring and determined efforts to ensure that mineral resources and the environmental management are reactivated in Nasarawa state.

Presenting the vote of thanks, the committee Chairman, Hon. Aminu Ma’azu Maifa, Special Assistant on Solid Mineral to Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura, thanked the Governor for approving the resuscitation of the state MIREMCO, and appointing them to serve as a committee for reconstitution of MIREMCO in the state. He furthered appreciated Dr. Kayode Fayemi, CON, for his kind support and cooperation accorded in facilitating the reactivation of the state’s MIREMCO for better growth and development of the solid minerals sector in Nasarawa State , and Nigeria at large.

The Inaugural ceremony had in attendance, Secretary to the State Government , Hon. Commissioner Environment, Hon. Commissioner Information, Permanent Secretary Environment, HRH – Sarkin Awe and HRH- Sarkin Adudu and Principal Officers from the Federal Ministry of Mines & Steel, Abuja.
