Gov Bagudu Seeks Partnership With IITA to Boost Food Production

Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state, has expressed the willingness of his administration to partner International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) to enhance agricultural production in the state.

Bagudu made the statement on Monday in Birnin Kebbi when he received a delegation from the institute led by Dr Kendon Dashar.

He said that the government seeks  collaboration with the institute to conduct research on how to improve agricultural production.

He said the state had the potential to venture into commercial agriculture to boost food security.

 

 

 

 

He urged the institute to support the efforts of his administration to boost food production and improve the economic status of farmers.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Dr Kenton Darshar, promised that the institute would collaborate with the government to conduct research on how to improve agricultural production.

He said the institute is a non-profit making organisation that conducts research on agriculture to meet Africa’s challenges of hunger, malnutrition, poverty and degradation of natural resources.

“Our institute collaborates with partners across sub-Saharan Africa to improve livelihoods, enhance food and nutrition security, increase employment and preserve natural resource integrity, ” he said. (NAN)
