The Police in Kebbi on Monday said they had arrested one Nasiru Bako for impersonating as a Lieutenant of the Nigerian Army.

They also said that they had arrested a bank worker, Thomson Ongaji, for allegedly defrauding a customer of N5 million.

The Police Commissioner in the state, Ibrahim Kabiru, disclosed this to newsmen on Monday in Birnin Kebbi.

Kabiru said agents of the Department of State Services (DSS) attached to Kebbi Government House arrested the fake army officer, who was accompanied by his impostor orderly, Hussaini Umaru, while trying to gain access to the wife of the State Governor, Dr Zainab Bagudu.

The commissioner said the police had commenced investigation into the rationale behind the illegal act.

He said Ogaji, on the other hand, allegedly defrauded one Hajia Fatima Umaru of N5 million on the pretext of buying treasury bills for her.

Kabiru, who did not disclose the name of the bank, said Ongaji, however, converted the money to personal use.

He said Ogaji was apprehended at his residence behind Nakowa Guest Inn, Birni Kebbi, after receiving complaints from Umaru.(NAN)
