Stakeholders Review Routine Immunization Milestones in Yobe -Abdulalah Bego
H.E Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, his deputy Engr. Abubakar D. Ali, Co-Chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mr. Bill Gates, Chairman of Dangote Foundation, Alhaji Aliko Dangote along with other stakeholders met today in Damaturu for a mid-year review of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Yobe State Government and the two Foundations on strenghtening Routine Immunization (RI) in the state.
Mr. Gates and Alhaji Dangote joined the meeting via live video connection from Seattle in the United States and Lagos respectively.
Governor Gaidam, who described strenghtening RI as the ‘entry point’ for the overall strenghtening of primary healthcare in the state, said with improved security, ‘more people are being reached with vaccines, essential drugs and other life-saving commodities’.
“The Yobe State Government will continue to support the provision of life-saving vaccines, other high-impact life-saving interventions, increase the human resource work force and (engage in) the renovation, revitalization and standardization of primary healthcare facilties in line with the minimum standards for primary healthcare in Nigeria”, the governor said.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) which is one of the development partners at the meeting, acknowledged the effort of the Yobe State Government “for the successful implementation of the MoU on Rountine Immunization with visible improvement in the first one and a half years of successful implementation”.
The WHO assured that the successes recorded through the Reaching Every Settlement/Reaching Inaaccessible Child initiatives “which brought down the number of inaccessible settlements from over 700 in December 2016 to a little over 170 at present will be maintained”.
