Acting President Opens Conference on Asset Recovery

Nigeria and other African countries are joining the global force on promoting international co-operation in combating illicit financial flows and enhancing asset recovery to foster sustainable development.

At the opening of a three day conference in Abuja where stakeholders condemned the role of financial institutions in the transfer of illicit funds, acting president Yemi Osinbajo says African countries should take responsibility in ensuring that the African nations’ wealth that would aid sustainable development is not looted.

 

AG President Osinbajo Mourns  Osotimehin

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, has expressed shock and saddened on the death of prof. Babatunde Osotimehin, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and a former minister of health in Nigeria.

In a statement by the senior special assistant to the President on media and publicity in the office of the Vice President, Laolu Akande, the acting president on behalf of the people and government of Nigeria extends heartfelt condolences to his wife, children and entire family over the passage of the illustrious Nigerian.

Babatunde Osotimehin is Dead

On a sad note, the death has been announced of Professor Babatunde Osotimehin, the executive director of the United Nations population fund [UNFPA].

Professor Osetimehin according to a statement by his family died on Sunday 4th June at the age of 68.

Osotimehin was Nigeria’s former Minister of Health and Director General of the National Action Committee for Aids [AIDS].

FG set to reposition postal agency

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its determination to reposition its postal agency to become relevant in line with the change agenda of the present administration

The Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu gave this assurance at Ogere in Ogun State.

IGP in Imo

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has inaugurated the intelligence technical equipment unit of Imo State Police Command.

The IGP said, the equipment will help the force to monitor and nip all forms of crime especially kidnapping in the bud across the south-east.

INEC to Review Communication Policy

INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu has stressed that the electoral commission is determined to provide accurate and complete information on its policies, programmes and initiatives.

He was speaking in Kaduna at the opening of a two day workshop to review INEC communication policy.

International Conference on Illicit Finances

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo says the recovery of stolen funds must be relentless and receive the cooperation of stakeholders particularly countries where such illicit funds are held.

The acting president was speaking at the international conference on illicit financial flows and asset recovery in Abuja.

The acting president said the theft of public funds is a grave disservice to the the public and must be stopped.

Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe has been named the new chairperson of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Liberia’s Capital Monrovia.
