Treat Nigerians In Border Communities Fairly — SERVICOM

Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli, the National Coordinator of SERVICOM, has advocated equal treatment and provision of basic facilities for Nigerians living in border communities as in other communities in the country.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday by Miss Patience Musa, the Public Awareness Manager of SERVICOM, the coordinator said the advocacy became important so that the border communities would become more patriotic to boost national security.

Musa said Akajemeli spoke when visited Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA), Abuja.

“Communities around the borders deserve equal access to public services like any other community because they are citizens of this country and they should also have a sense of belong to a nation,’’ Akajemeli said.

She enjoined management of BCDA to work towards ensuring sustainable social economic and infrastructural development of the border communities’ dwellers.

According to her, regular consultation with such communities will enable BCDA to identify the needs of the people in order of priority.

She solicited the support of BCDA for the SERVICOM unit in the agency, observing that members of the unit, who had been trained to add value to service delivery processes, should be more involved in its core activities.

In his response, Mr Numoipre Wills, the Executive Secretary of BCDA, expressed concern over the dearth of social infrastructure in most border communities.

He observed that some of these communities accessed better social amenities such as electricity, hospitals and schools from neighbouring countries.

He, nonetheless, explained that the activities of BCDA were interventionist; expressing optimism that with the recent improved funds to it, more infrastructural projects would be identified and carried out for the overall development of the border communities.(NAN)
