INEC Affirms Confidence In Nigerian Printers, Assures Improved Partnership
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has affirmed the confidence of the Commission in the capacity of Nigerian printers to support the Commission to deliver. He assured that the existing partnership would be strengthened ahead of the 2019 General Elections.
He said: “We have always believed in supporting the capacity of our own Nigerian printers and we have stated this overtime. We will continue to partner with our Nigerian printers. We will continue to support those who have the capacity to support the Commission to deliver and I have no doubt that you have the capacity to support the Commission to deliver”. The INEC Chairman gave the affirmation yesterday, when a delegation of Professional Printers led by Mallam Yahaya Amfani, visited the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja.
Professor Yakubu disclosed that: “since the assumption of this new Commission, we have conducted 167 elections so far. The largest number of elections conducted outside the context of general elections. It involves huge logistics, including for your own purpose, from the sensitive to the non sensitive, ranging from all the envelopes, the forms, the posters, the booklets down to the sensitive materials. In the 167 elections conducted, not on one occasion did we contract it to foreign printers. They were all done by Nigerian printers”. He explained that the early release of the 2019 general elections dates was to enable the Commission prepare, stressing that issues of sensitive and non-sensitive materials and others which required printing could not be left until the last minute. Said he: “I want to commend the effort of professional printers by seeking audience with the Commission. In one respect you are as proactive as INEC is, because there are matters that you cannot leave to the last minute”.
Earlier in his remarks, the leader of the delegation, Mallam Yahaya Amfani, said their visit was meant to discuss areas of cooperation and to see to the success of 2019 general election.
