The Buhari Media Support Group (BMSG) has called on Nigerians to embrace the whistle blower policy of the Federal Government, saying that the recent recovery of looted funds by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is a proof that the strategy works. Nigerians Expect Speedy Passage of 2017 Budget – BMSG

In a statement issued today in Abuja, the Group also commended the Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC) on “the recent milestone it recorded on the recovery of stolen national funds by former government officials’’. President Buhari To Implement Abandoned Projects and Policies – BMSG

The statement which was signed by the Coordinator of the Group, Mallam Muhammad Labbo, and the Secretary, Chief Cassidy Madueke further commended the EFCC for applying the whistle blower policy in confiscating the sum of $9.8 million and other currencies allegedly concealed by a former Group Managing Director of the NNPC.

“The policy has given EFCC the teeth for the necessary bite needed in carrying out its functions,’’ the statement said.

Alluding to the recovery of a total sum of $151 million and N8 billion within few weeks by the anti-graft Commission, the BMSG condemned the spate of looting of public funds in the country.

The Group observed that if the high incidence of looting the nation’s treasury was allowed to continue in such a brazen manner, “it will further bring Nigeria to its knees’’.

The Group said that any doubts that the looting of treasury was the main business of officials who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan administration  have been erased by the most recent recovery of looted funds by the EFCC.

BMSG said it is convinced that huge sums of looted funds were still in the private accounts and vaults of many other former officials of the immediate past government and therefore urged the EFCC to step of its game in the “looted funds recovery project’’.

The group which said that such funds when recovered could rightly fund national budget for the next several years, also urged the EFCC to ensure the prosecution of the culprits.

“We commend the whistle-blower initiative by the Federal Government which we are convinced has opened the vista of opportunities for ordinary Nigerians to put eyes on the management of their resources with a mind-set to report further stealing of their commonwealth by those elected or appointed to serve their interests.

“We also urge all Nigerians to align with the principle of whistleblowing with a resolve to support the anti-graft agencies in their drive to rid Nigeria of acts of corruption, most especially looting of public funds,” the statement said. BMSG Applauds INEC for Successful Conduct of Ondo Election

Furthermore, BMSG expressed optimism that the “nation’s economy will start looking up’’ given the initiatives so far put in place by the government of President Buhari.

The Group identified the sharp rise in the external reserve of the nation as a positive sign the Nigeria’s economy was on the path of growth again after several years of decline and decay.
