Federal Government Takes Over Arik

The federal government has taken over the management of Arik airways and announced lifeline to help keep the distressed company afloat.
The management of the asset management corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) explained that the government’s decision is in line with its desire to sanitize the country’s aviation sector.

AMCON said the development will afford Arik airlines, which is the largest local carrier in the country, return to regular and undisrupted operations, avoid job losses, protect investors and stakeholder funds as well as ensure safety and stability in the already challenged aviation sector.

Under the new arrangement, the airline would be managed by a veteran aviation expert Roy Ilegbodu with the receivership of a senior advocate of Nigeria Oluseye Opasanya.

Managing director Kaduna refining and Petroleum Corporation a subsidiary of NNPC Mallam Idi Muktar has advised illegal tappers of the refinery’s raw water pipeline to desist from the act warning that it is not fit for human consumption.

He said the refinery loses an average of 2.2 billion naira annually on this illegality on the facility that runs from Kaduna River causing it to spend more on diesel and other equipment.

He said the acts are committed mostly in Janruwa Kamazo Namaigero and Mahuta area of Kaduna metropolis.

Executive Director Operations of the company Shehu Malami said the refinery was currently operating at 65 percent capacity.
