#PrimaryHealthcare: Nma Donates Books Worth N5Million to Kebbi State School of Midwifery
Nma Ofili, a U.K. based Nigerian born midwife consultant and founder footprints community services has donated books worth N5Million to the Kebbi state school of Nursing and Midwifery Birnin Kebbi. The books were presented to the administration of the school by the wife of the governor Dr Zainab Bagudu. The midwife donated fetal monitors to a primary health care center in the state also through the governors wife over a year ago.
The donation is as a result of request made to Her Excellency by the students during a previous visit. Nma Ofili kindly sourced the books as a free donation from U.K. Nursing schools which the Kebbi state government then transported.
The Kebbi state school is licensed to produce 50 nurses per year by the Midwifery council of Nigeria. This number was being threatened due to lack of adequate training facilities. Most of these facilities and requirements have now
been uplifted and mt.
Human Resources for health is the main problem faced by the health sector in Nigeria. Kebbi state requires 900 midwives in the state employ to man its projected 225 primary health care centers. To achieve this requires 18 streams of students every 3 years. The investment is vital as a skilled midwife can save a life in the under a tree. Up to 90% of women in Northern Nigeria deliver without a skilled health worker compared to 35% in the South.
The administration of HE Sen Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has invested visibly in the health sector. The hard and e Library of the Nursing school has been upgraded and now boasts of adequate books and IT compliance.
Training women to become good health workers, not only empowers them but ensures less women and children die from pregnancy and related causes.
