NCC, NSCDC Meet on Telecom Infrastructure Protection
– Vow to mop up Pre-registered SIM Cards and to Prosecute Offenders
Top Management staff of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) just rose from a meeting at NCC this afternoon with a resolve to protect telecommunication infrastructure being strategic components of national critical assets.
The NCC’s Executive Commissioner Stakeholder Management, Mr. Sunday Dare who received the NSCDC delegation on behalf of the EVC/CEO, Prof. Umar Danbatta praised the two organizations for the efforts and determination to collaborate and tackle a major challenge undermining the operations of a key sector of the Nigerian economy, describing the meeting as auspicious.
Director Public Affairs NCC, Mr.Tony Ojobo; Head Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement, Mr. Efosa Idehen; Head Legal and Regulatory Services, Mrs. Yetunde Akinloye; and Head Enforcement, Mr. Salisu Abdu who joined the ECSM to receive the NSCDC team took time to capture the challenges in the telecom sector that will be of mutual interest to the two organizations and form the plank of the collaborative engagement.
The two organizations resolved to rid the Nigerian landscape of every vestige of pre-registered SIM Cards; to diligenly prosecute offenders; and to institute processes to ensure smooth roll out of optic fibre infrastructure to improve the quality of telecom services across the country. A 6-man committee comprising three persons from each organization will be constituted to articulate concretely areas and modalities for collaboration.
The delegation from the NSCDC was led by the Acting Deputy Commandant-General in charge of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Protecction (CNAIP) Directorate, Mr. Amos Andekein. Other members of his team include Mr. Idris Haruna, Acting Deputy Commandant-General Intelligence and Investigation; Mr. Jonathan Iyogho, Assistant Commandant-General in the CNAIP Directorate; and Mrs. Yemisi Salako, NSCDC Legal Adviser.
