President Buhari hosts NIPSS Participants

The federal government has formally declared its commitment to applying decisive measures towards ending extreme poverty in the country as a deliberate attempt to keep faith with the nation’s poor.

President Muhammadu Buhari stated this at a parley with participants of the senior executive course 38 of the national institute for policy strategic studies.

He said it is impossible for his administration as the people’s government to ignore the poor who made great sacrifices for the change agenda.

NJC Sets Up Anti-Corruption Committee

The national judicial council has decided that judicial officers standing trial for alleged corruption-related offenses will not be allowed to perform judicial functions at the same time.

It also decided that judicial officers being investigated for alleged high-profile criminal offenses will not perform judicial functions until their cases are concluded.

These are part of the decisions taken by the national judicial council at its seventy-ninth meeting where it commenced the implementation of the national judicial policy.

The council also set up a transparency and anti-corruption policy implementation committee headed by a retired Justice of the supreme court and former chairman, independent corrupt practices commission, justice Emmanuel Ayoola.

Other members are the chief judge of Borno state and the president, Nigerian bar association.

Meanwhile, a new secretary has been appointed to the council, He is the chief registrar of the Supreme Court, Ahmed Gambo sale.

IGP Panel On Alleged Abuse At IDP Camps

The inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Idris has set up a special panel to investigate all cases of alleged sexual abuses, exploitation Harassments, gender-based violence and professional misconduct against internally displaced persons in some Northern states.

In a statement by the public relations officer, force headquarters, don Awunah, the inspector-general is calling on human Rights watch Officials avail the investigation team more facts that will assist the police to conduct the inquiry into  the alleged forty-three cases mentioned in the report.

The statement also directs commissioners of police in locations where the IDP camps are situated to beef up security and ensure adequate safety of all displaced people and for police officers deployed to the camps to strictly adhere to the rules of engagement.
