President Buhari Arrives New York

President Muhammadu Buhari is in New York, the United States, ahead of the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Nigerian Air Force Jets Bombard Boko Haram Target Locations

The Nigerian air force conducted several airstrikes at suspected boko haram target locations on the outskirts of Tumbin Gini and Tumbin Kayewa in Borno state.

The airstrikes were informed by ground based intelligence and successive intelligence surveillance reconnaissance reports obtained from mission flown by NAF platforms.

In a video released by Nigerian Air Force, some of the terrorists could be seen at one of the terrorist’s rendezvous where they were believed to be holding a high level meeting when NAF Jets were scrambled to hit the locations.

A post-strike battle damage assessment of strikes revealed that the rendezvous was badly damaged with many causalities while those far from the vicinity could be seen scrambling for safety.

NAF f-7ni and the alpha jets were involved in the air strikes.

The air offensive has continued to deny the terrorists any hiding place and room for maneuver and enabled unhindered advance by the surface forces as part of the on-going Operation Gama Aiki.

Paralympians Arrive

Team Nigeria’s athletes to the 2016 Rio Paralympics Sunday arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport Abuja amidst fun fair by stakeholders’ who gathered to receive them.

The first batch of twenty athletes were full of joy following the record breaking performance winning eight gold, two silver and two bronze to place sixteenth.

The last batch is expected to arrive Abuja on Monday.

The ministry of youth and sports development has assured Nigerians that a reception will hold for the contingent at a later date.

Ekweremadu salutes Paralympic contingent

The deputy president of the senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has described the Nigerian contingent to the Rio Paralympics in Brazil as true heroes, who gave their best to their fatherland.

A statement by special adviser (media) to Deputy President of the Senate, Uche Anichukwu,

Senator Ekweremadu noted that with 12 medals, including eight gold medals, and six world record-breaking performance, the team had not only put up the best performance ever by any Nigerian contingent to the Paralympics, but had shown that ability was in the mind.

The deputy senate president called on other Nigerian athletes and national teams to emulate the Nigerian spirit exhibited by the paralympians.

While calling on the federal government and Nigerians to accord the team a heroic’ reception and reward them accordingly, senator Ekweremadu reiterated the need for drastic and urgent steps to reposition the nation’s sports sector.

He also stressed the need to revive school sporting competitions to groom future champions.
