President Buhari endorses Obaseki
President Muhammadu Buhari has formally endorsed the candidacy of Godwin Obaseki of the Apc for the forthcoming Edo State governorship election and called for his election massively towards consolidating developmental strides by the Oshiomhole administration.

IGP on Edo governorship election 2016
Meanwhile, the acting inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris has deployed a deputy inspector general of police, assisted by an assistant inspector general of police and three commissioners of police to co-ordinate the security operations and facilitate the electoral process for the 10th September, 2016 governorship election in Edo state.
In a statement by force public relations officer DCP Don Awunah, the IGP also approved the deployment of additional twenty five thousand police personnel for the election in the state.

Military warns militant groups
The defence headquarters has decried the disturbing spate of militant groups springing up in the Niger delta region.

A statement by the acting director defence information brigadier general Rabe Abubakar says the latest is the Niger delta Greenland justice mandate (NDGJM) which claims to have blown up NNPC oil facility a few days ago.

The statement further says the same group has been reported to have issued threats to people living around oil and gas infrastructure to vacate their homes or face being casualties in their subsequent attacks.

The defence headquarters has therefore warned that no group or individual has the power to threaten residents in any part of the country as such acts will be decisively dealt with.

Federal Government moves to prevent Economic losses on the Highways
As the federal government intensifies efforts to reconstruct and rehabilitate highways across the country, the minister of power, works and housing, Babatunde Fashola has directed federal controllers of works to ensure the removal of all obstructions on the right of ways in order to promote safety and prevent economic losses on the roads.

The minister also directed that the issuance of permits to erect structures on right of ways on federal highways should no longer be granted and there would be no renewal for those who already have such structures on the highways.

the minister who spoke during a meeting in Abuja with federal controllers of works and sector commanders of the federal road safety corps (FRSC) from across the federation, said that while those with permit would be allowed to stay till the expiration of such permit, those with no permit should immediately leave the right of way.

Expressing dismay at the ease with which the permits are issued in the name of internally generated revenue (IGR), Fashola told the controllers, that the priority should be how to secure the right of way back.
