Federal Government Appoints MD for NERFUND

An Acting Managing Director for the National Economic Reconstruction Fund, NERFUND, has been appointed.

He is Dr Ezekiel Oseni. A statement by the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance Mahmoud Isa Dutse states that the appointment takes immediate effect and was made under a management agreement between the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Industry.

Dr Ezekiel Oseni was until his appointment a General Manager and Chief Risk Officer at the Bank of Industry.

He has the mandate to amongst other things reposition the organization and ensure all outstanding debts are recovered. Read more…

Zamfara Governor Briefs Buhari

The Governor of Zamfara State Abudulaziz Yari Abubakar has briefed President Buhari on the recent violence that erupted in Abdu-Gusau Polytechnic over allegations of blasphemy where several lives were lost. The Governor and President Buhari who had earlier in a tweet described the incident as barbaric and unacceptable met behind closed doors. Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, Governor Yari Abubakar promised that those found wanting will be brought to justice. President Buhari had vowed that under his watch, there will be no room for violence in the name of religion.

Obasanjo Receives Liberian Vice President

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has promised to continue to do everything possible to ensure that the Nigeria maintains a cordial relationship with other African countries for the development of the continent.

Chief Obasanjo stated this when the Liberian Vice-President visited him at his hill top residence in Abeokuta the Ogun state capital.

The Nigeria immigration service is taking steps to reconsider the dispersed 2000 officers and men who were unilaterally and illegally recruited into the service in 2015.

Update on Italy Earthquake

At least 120 have died after the earthquake that struck central Italy, destroying dozens of villages. The latest figures were announced by the Italian prime minister.

Italy’s civil protection agency also reports that more than 1000 persons have been displaced following the earthquake which could be felt 150 kilometers away.

The first confirmed victims of the earthquake were an elderly couple whose home collapsed in the Marche region to the east of the epicenter. Rescue efforts are continuing.

Gunmen Attack American University Campus In Kabul

Latest reports on the attack on the American university of Afghanistan in Kabul, says Afghan police have responded to the incident with the attackers and others are trapped inside the institution. Reports say foreign professors are inside the compound alongside hundreds of students.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes as the Taliban step up their summer fighting season against the western-backed Kabul government.
