No legislator can be charged to court for performing his constitutional duty – Dogara
The Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara says no member of the National Assembly can be investigated or charged to Court for carrying out his or her Constitutional duties. He said this at a Civil Society dialogue on one year of the House of Representatives legislative Agenda organized by Policy and Legislative Advocacy Centre.
Speaker Yakubu Dogara was emphatic that according to the provisions of the legislative houses powers and privileges act, no member of the legislators can be charged to court for performing his duty.
The speaker implored civil society organizations and indeed all Nigerians to acquaint themselves with the provisions of the constitution especially the section that provides for the powers of the legislature in budget considerations
Speaker Yakubu Dogara said one of the responsibilities of legislatures globally is to attract federal presence to their constituencies.
