Honour As #NGR Aruna Quadri Loses To World No. 1 In #Rio2016
Aruna Quadri’s hopes of winning Nigeria’s and Africa’s first men’s singles table tennis Olympic medal were dashed at Rio 2016 early on Wednesday morning at the Riocetnro Pavilion 3.
Quadri lost 4 – 0 to Chinese’s star Ma Long who is the current world number one. The 28-year-old also edged Czech Republic’s Dimitry Prokoptsov 4-2 in the first round before beating Yang Wang of Slovakia 4-1 in round two of the Games.
The Chinese superstar was too quick and too sharp for Quadri, beating the Nigerian in four sets. Quadri started brightly, sharing the first four points with Long 2-2, but from that point on, it was the Chinese all the way.
The match ended 11-4, 11-2, 11-6, 11-7 and was quickly over in just 28 minutes.
Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri Monday night emerged as the first African ever to make it to the quarter finals of the men’s single table tennis event at the Olympics.
