National Policy On Public Safety And Security Will Retool Internal Security In Nigeria ~ Dambazau

The Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General (Rtd) Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, has expressed delight on the report of the Committee commissioned by the previous administration to come up with a national policy on public safety and security in Nigeria. While applauding the in-depth of submissions contained in the reports, General Dambazau said the security document will seamlessly retool the nation’s internal security. He immediately set up an ad-hoc committee to review the recommendations and suggest modalities for its implementation.

In his submission, Professor Femi Odekunle who chaired the committee said the committee was inaugurated to facilitate the development of a national policy for public safety and security, to provide road map and rules of engagement for security agencies on matters relating to internal security.

Professor Odekunle noted further that the committee made copious research and broad based consultation both local and internationally in coming up with the reports which are in two volumes. He said the report which is premise on the over line policy frame, that internal security is a matrix that requires cohesive approach, took cognizance of the terms of reference which amongst others, entails  assigning of roles and responsibilities to stakeholders within the individual and community in matters pertaining to  public safety.

The Permanent Secretary of Interior Ministry, Mr Bassey Okon Akpanyung in his votes of thanks, saluted the committee for the job well done, and pledged his supports to implementation of the reports. Other members of the committee are:

            c           Dr. Kemi Rotimi

            d.         CP (Barrister) E. Alobi (Rtd) MON
