Buhari Inaugurates Ogoni Clean-Up Committees

Another significant milestone has been recorded in the Buhari Administration’s commitment towards the implementation of the united nation’s environment programme report on Ogoniland and other impacted communities in the Niger Delta region.

This followed the inauguration of the governing council and the board of trustees of the trust fund for the clean-up of Ogoniland otherwise refers to as hydrocarbon pollution remediation project.

President Muhammadu Buhari performed the ceremony in the state house.

Federal GFovernment on Illegal Diversion of Explosives

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi has ordered the immediate sealing off of Nigerian development and Construction Company; an importer and exporter of explosives in Koko, delta state over illegal diversion of explosives.

In a statement by his special assistant on media, Olayinka Oyebode, the closure is in addition to the blacklisting of the company and withdrawal of its license to do business.

The statement adds that this development is sequel to investigations by the office of the national security adviser which revealed that the company was involved in illegal diversion of about nine thousand kilogrammes of nitro-glycerine explosives and 16,420 pieces of electrical detonators from its magazines between 2015 and 2016.

The minister warns all manufacturers, importers, sellers and end users of explosives in the country to desist from unprofessional sale, procurement, storage and use of explosives in line with the provisions of the explosives act of 1954, the explosives regulations of 1967 and other extant policy directives.

Workshop on Small Arms and Light Weapons

The United Nations has reiterated determination to support African countries in building capacity to combat violent extremism in the continent.

This came to the fore at a workshop in Abuja on improving cross-border sub-regional cooperation in small and light weapons control.
