Acting IGP Warns Criminals

The acting Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris has warned criminals especially kidnappers in the country never to think Nigeria is lawless.

He gave the warning when operatives of his intelligence response team arrested a notorious kidnapping gang known to have been terrorizing law abiding citizens in Rivers State and UTS environs.

In a statement by force public relations officer, Force Headquarters, DCP Don Awunah,

The gang met its end when they kidnapped a woman and her one year old daughter from her port Harcourt home, demanding the sum of two million, five hundred thousand naira as ransom for their freedom. Based on the credible technical intelligence generated by the intelligence responses team, this was however agreed as bait.

the end of the gang came when in their attempt to claim the said sum of money at the agreed point, operatives of the response team engaged them, rescued the victims and arrested four of the kidnappers who gave their names as Herbert Oriminagbe, Chijioke Akah Alias Katta, Kelechi Nwaordu Alias seed of and Nelson Ajumogobia Alia Ibios.

The gangs admitted that they were also responsible for the kidnap of one Undunabuk and other Innocent Nigerians. Going through a laptop recovered from them, it was discovered that the real owner was once robbed in his residence in porthacourt and later kidnapped but released after one million; three hundred thousand naira ransom was paid.

The acting IGP says the Nigeria police has the capacity and capability for technical and intelligence c to reduce the perceived rise in crime especially kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and other forms at violent crime.

Abuja environmental protection board on Debt Recovery

Owners of residential houses in the Abuja metropolis owe the Abuja environmental protection board AEPB an aggregate sum of three point nine billion naira for solid and liquid waste evacuation.

Amnesty International Protest Planned Executions in Indonesia

Following recent report that the Indonesian government would be executing 14 persons this week for drug trafficking, an international human rights organization, “amnesty international” has staged a protest in Abuja.

The protest in front of the Indonesian embassy Abuja is to appeal that Indonesian president Joko Widodo reverse the death penalty to imprisonment.

Amnesty international says that it received credible reports that some of the condemned prisoners were convicted in unfair trials.

It wants the sentences commuted to imprisonment just as it calls for the upholding of rights of citizens across the world, through fair hearing, proper trial proceedings and appropriate penalties.

Of the convicted persons, five are Nigerian’s, four Indonesian, a Pakistani, an Indian, a Zimbabwean, a Senegalese and a South African.

Indonesia has come under public scrutiny over its laws which explicitly hand down death sentences for drug related offences.
