Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has described the Late Minister of Mines, Power and Petroleum, Alhaji Shettima Monguno who died on Friday, as one of the finest statesmen and political actors Nigeria ever had and who would always remain a fountain of inspiration in life and death.

in a condolence statement delivered on his behalf by a federal government delegation led by the national security adviser major-general babagana munguno, president buhari said the late elder statesman from borno state ranked among the most respected public figures in nigeria while in office and while in private retirement life.

the president recalled that in the course of his public service as a parliamentarian and a federal minister of internal affairs during the first republic, the late shettima monguno left behind a legacy of untainted and unblemished career which he said should be emulated by nigerian leaders at all levels.

President Buhari extended his condolences to the family, the government and the people of Borno State over the passing of the late elder statesman and prayed Almighty God to grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest.

The government delegation included the minister of education, Malam Adamu Adamu, the Minister of the FCT, Mohammed Musa Bello and the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity Garba Shehu.

Saraki Mourns Monguno
similarly, senate president, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has expressed sadness over the death of one of the last set of the nation’s founding fathers, elder statesman, Alhaji Shettima Ali Monguno, who he  described as a detribalized Nigerian and worthy ambassador.
Saraki in a statement by his special adviser media and publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki  noted that the former minister of mines and petroleum in the first republic would be missed considering his giant political strides and contributions to the building of the Nigerian Nation.

He described Monguno’s death as painful especially coming at a time when the federal government has successfully turned the tide against insurgents in the north east.

He recalled that the late politician was a victim of the insurgency when he was abducted by gunmen at a mosque before he was later rescued.
He commiserated with the Ali Monguno family, governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State, the entire people of Borno State as well as all associates of the late Statesman.

Speaker Mourns Monguno

Speaker House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has expressed deep sadness at the death of foremost educationist and politician, Shettima Ali Monguno, who passed on Friday at the age of 90.

in a statement by his special adviser on media and public affairs, Turaki Hassan, the speaker said the passing on of the late elder statesman is a big loss, not only to the government and people of Borno State, but to the entire nation.

The number four citizen of the country said Monguno’s death is even more painful considering that he was a man of great experience in many critical sectors of the country, having served as the head of many agencies of government.

The speaker noted that the elder statesman died at a time the country and its leadership is in dire need of his wealth of experience and wisdom to overcome the multifaceted challenges facing the nation.

While expressing his sympathies to the family of the deceased and the government and people of Borno State, he prayed the almighty god to grant him eternal rest and comfort all those he left behind.

Still on condolence, the wife of the president Aisha Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the family and people of Sokoto State over the death of the late Marafan Sokoto Umaru Aliyu Shinkafi.
