Rehabilitation and Expansion of Ilorin-Mokwa-Jebba Road

The eyes of the present government has caught the dilapidated  Ilorin-Mokwa-Jebba road over the months and the government is relentless over the road rehabilitation as it has been the major road that link the northern and southern parts of the country.

In December 2015: Kwara and Niger legislatures sought inclusion of Ilorin-Jebba highway project in 2016 budget, the legistlators from the two neighboring states outcry on the hardship being experienced by motorists plying the road. The call to the repair of this road led to the inspection visit to the deplorable highway in Jebba led by the speakers of both Kwara and Niger States Houses of Assembly, Dr. Ali Ahmad and Alhaji Ahmed Marafa respectively.

The Speakers viciously explained the trauma this Ilorin-Mokwa-Jebba road has caused  both states in the socio-economic means and  Nigeria at large and called on the Federal Government to do the needful.

In February 2016: Minister of power, works and housing, Fashola embarked on an official visit to Niger State in order to meet the Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, at the state Government House in Minna and make his official trip to Zungeru Hydro Power Dam after meeting the governor. The Minister lamented when he discovered the time wasted on the journey that could have taken them less time if the road is in good condition.

‘‘We are making 60km journey that should take 40 minutes. We are making it at one and half hour to three hours.

“As I said to those truck drivers along Ilorin-Jebba road, staying there for four days, if they have the opportunity where they will pay and tolling, it would have been better than losing four days and their perishable goods there. We will fix the roads first and we go back to maintenance,” the minister stated.

In April 2016: Concerned Nigerian who claimed to have been complaining on the Social Media Platform on the bad state of this very road posted the pictures of the ongoing construction even when the appropriation bill 2016 has not been passed. The confusion generated by the pictures of the rehabilitation of the Ilorin-Mokwa-Jebba construction despite the #BudgetNG2016 under review and yet to be signed.

Today, June 15, 2016: The Government of Nigeria flaunted another pictures on the same construction in order to show  Nigerians the level at which the present government is concerned about the rehabilitation of dilapidated roads under past regime.
