Ireland Presents Calabar Artifacts to Nigeria

Historical maps of Calabar drafted in 1894 by roger casement, a diplomatic officer have been presented to the Director General, National Commission for Museums and Monuments, Mallam Yusuf Usman in Abuja.

The presentation was done by Sean Hoy Ambassador of Ireland to Nigeria and Paul Arkwright, British High Commission to Nigeria.

The artifacts are some of the earliest attempts map the Calabar region by Roger Casement.

Two water tanks which still stand on a high tower in Calabar, Cross River state, are locally known as the casement tanks and are credited as the first public water supply for the local community. This year marks the centenary of his death.
