VP Osinbajo Reiterates The Relevance Of ACP In International Affairs
Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo says coming together of African, Caribbean and Pacific countries is an important step towards responding to the present global challenges of sustainable development.
He was speaking to journalists at the on-going 8th summit of the African, Caribbean and Pacific heads of state and governments holding in Papua, New Guinea, where he is representing President Muhammadu Buhari.
The 8th African, Caribbean and Pacific group of states and governments’ summit formally opened in Port Moresby, in New Guinea. The Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill is chairing the 8th summit.
In accordance with the theme of the summit, focus was on re positioning the African, Caribbean and Pacific group to respond to the challenges of sustainable development.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill reiterated times have changed and ACP needs to refine its vision to suit today’s needs.
Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo who is representing Nigeria at the summit said the group has achieved so much since its formation in 1975 by giving their countries voice in international affairs, and must stay relevant.
The Eminent persons group was chaired by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. The ACP group is made up of 79 member-states that have committed themselves to a relationship with the European Union.
The meetings will prioritize outcomes that will ensure equitable and sustainable development for ACP people, peace, security and sustainability and enhancing the role of the ACP group in global governance for development.
