BUHARI ENGAGES WATER RESOURCES MINISTRY
A robust programme of action is soon to be unveiled by the ministry of water resources towards ensuring that Nigeria achieves 100 percent water supply and sanitation coverage in line with objectives of the sustainable development goals.
Minister of Water Resources Suleiman Adamu stated this while briefing President Muhammadu Buhari on the immediate and long term strategies for the water sector.
BUHARI RECEIVES OUTGOING ENVOYS
The federal government says it is fully committed to doing everything within its power towards achieving the rapid diversification of Nigeria’s economy, in the shortest time possible.
President Muhammadu Buhari stated this at a farewell audience with outgoing Iranian ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Saeed Koozech.
SGF/NLC AGREE ON PALLIATIVES
The federal government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have reached some major decisions.
This includes a decision to set up a sixteen-member committee to look into issues of implementation and allocation of resources and palliatives to cushion the effect of the petroleum price increase, and other measures as suggested by the labour movement.
FG APPOINTS PPPRA BOARD CHAIRMAN
Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal has announced the appointment of a new board chairman for the petroleum products pricing regulatory agency (PPPRA).
He is Muhammadu Buba.
The SGF announced the appointment in Abuja, this Wednesday.
DG APPOINTMENTS CORRECT
In a separate development, the federal government has approved the appointment of new chief executives for parastatals under the ministry of information and culture.
They are:
Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, Director-General, Nigerian television authority.
Ishaq Modibbo Kawu, Director-General, national broadcasting commission.
Mansur Liman, Director General, federal radio corporation.
Dr. Garba Abari, Director General, national orientation agency.
Bayo Onanuga, Managing Director, news agency of Nigeria; and
Mr. Osita Okechukwu, Director General, voice of Nigeria.
The new appointments replace the chief executives of the parastatals who were disengaged in February this year.
AS LIVE SENATE INVITES FINANCE MINISTER AND CBN GOVERNOR
The senate has adopted a motion inviting the Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele to brief senators on the monetary and fiscal policies put in place to salvage the economy.
The senate at this Wednesday’s plenary also mandated its committee on state and local governments to conduct a public hearing on the reforms aimed at strengthening local government administration in Nigeria within the context of Nigeria’s 1999 constitution.
NEW HOUSE ON PRODUCE BILL
The house of representatives has considered the report of its committee on agricultural production services on the bill for an act to amend the produce act law of the federation 2014.

The trial of Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki at the code of conduct tribunal has taken yet a new dimension as the prosecution witness Michael Wetkas who is standing in the witness box for the tenth day revealed that the disputed landed property contained in count six of the charge belongs to a private company.
FG DECLARES PUBLIC HOLIDAY
The federal government has declared Monday 30th of May, a public holiday to mark democracy day 2016.
A statement by the Minister of Interior, General Abdulrahman Dambazau congratulates Nigerians on the attainment of one year of the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He enjoined all to continue to support the federal government in its quest to sustain and build a peaceful and democratic legacy.
The Minister of Interior assured Nigerians that with the signing of the 2016 budget, the country would witness what he calls “a new deal” with its full implementation, especially the social intervention programme.
NIGERIAN SECURITY SUMMIT OPENS
Former Prime Minister of Denmark and Director General of north Atlantic treaty organization (NATO) Anders Rasmussen has a recommended global alliance for democracy, to fight the menace of insurgency effectively.
The Director General was speaking at the Nigeria summit on national security in Abuja, organized by the institute for peace and conflict resolution.
