This was made known in a press release issued by the Press Secretary to Interior Minister, Osaigbovo Ehisienmen, on Thursday.

According to Ehisienmen, Mr. Richard Young who led the European Union delegation to the Interior Ministry, promised to partner with agencies under the Ministry to boost their capacity to deliver on their respective mandate.

He said that speaking further, Mr. Richard used the occasion of the visit to reaffirm his government commitment to assist Nigeria on best border management practice, counter terrorism measures, tackling illegal migration, as well as general security.

In his response, the Interior Minister, Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (Rtd) who welcomed the EU’s support noted the porosity of the nation’s expansive borders, stating that plans have reached advanced stage to tighten border security, to curtail illegal migration which is inadvertently fanning pastoralist/farmers conflict, check movement of small and light weapons and curb transnational crime.

Ehisienmen said the Minister also mentioned the renewed collaboration with countries contiguous to Nigeria, aimed at creating a conducive environment for economic growth.
