Dogara Solicits UK’s Support In Establishing Radio and Television Stations in the National Assembly

Mr. Yakubu Dogara, has solicited the support of the British parliament in establishing Radio and television stations in the National Assembly.

Mr. Dogara who spoke when he received members of the International Development Committee of United Kingdom’s Parliament in his office, said the establishment of the media outfits in the parliament would enable Nigerians to assess activities of their elected representatives.

He said “the outfits would encourage popular participation in governance and activities of the legislators in line with the legislative agenda of the House.”

The speaker further disclosed that the House of Representatives had set up the Nigeria-British Parliamentary Friendship Group which he said would soon visit the West minster to strengthen the relationship between the two law making bodies.

The Speaker also told the UK Lawmakers that the House of Representatives had begun the process of amending over 130 laws of the country, to meet the contemporary realities of life, with the support of the Department for International Development (DFID).

The leader of the delegation, Mr. Stephen Twigg, said they were in the National Assembly to understudy the legislators and identify areas of partnership in ensuring a robust Legislature.

Mr. Twigg said they are committed to strengthening relations between their parliament and Nigeria’s National Assembly.
