NSCDC Reiterates Use Of Technology In Monitoring And Protection Of Critical Infrastructure, While Commemorating the 2016 World Civil Defence Day

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has reiterated its commitment to the application of new information technologies in monitoring and protection of critical infrastructure from illegal operators and vandals.

The Commandant General of the Corps, Abdulahi Gana Muhammadu said this during the commemoration of the 2016 World Civil Defence day in Abuja.

The World Civil Defence Day, established in 1990 is celebrated every year on the 1st of march.

The day reminds key players of the important role of national services especially the protection of critical infrastructure and disaster management.

Here in Nigeria the day was commemorated by highlighting technical means and equipment currently available to help facilitate the fight against vandalism of infrastructure.

Commenting on the deployment of three thousand personnel to various mining sites across the country, as well as another five thousand to the north east to beef up security, the Commandant General said the adoption of new technology has helped to enhance the corps performance.

In line with the International Civil Defence Organistion, the Commandant General said the National Services Globally are in the process of deploying modern mechanism and ICT to drive professionalism in operations.

The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire sought for collaboration and partnership with the corps in disaster prevention and mitigation.
