House of Reps Constitutes New Ad-hoc Committee For Constitution Amendment
The House of Representatives, has constituted a new Ad-Hoc Committee under the leadership of the Deputy Speaker, Sulaiman Lasun, to embark on a fresh Constitution amendment exercise.
The Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara, announced the membership of the committee at the close of plenary.
The committee includes all principal officers of the House with other members of the House like Sunday Karimi, Abubakar Chika, Jonathan Gaza, Aishatu Jibril Dukku, among others.
Last seventh Assembly undertook the constitution amendment process for several months and submitted the Fourth Amendment Alteration Bill to the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan, who refused assent while citing some reasons, ending the process without results.
Earlier, Speaker Dogara reiterated that the eight Assembly will re-submit the Alteration Bill to President Muhammadu Buhari, without commencing the exercise afresh.
It was not clear whether the exercise will commence fresh or the joint Senate and House committee or will accept the Bill by the last Assembly and re-submit to the President.
